Welcome to the Long and the Short of It, a deliberately vaguely titled blog which allows me to share stuff which, for a while now, certain clients, colleagues, friends and family have been pressing me to write down. In the latter case, I suspect, because it reduces the chances of me bending their ears about this stuff over breakfast.
As an actor specialising in voice work, I am acutely aware that there is a certain poetic irony in me starting this journey. My day job requires that I give voice to other people's written words, whether in audio books, in video games, on radio or on television. This blog reverses that journey. By writing my words down I am entering my clients' world. As an exercise it is not entirely anxiety free.
To keep things simple and searchable, I will initially divide my posts into two categories, a general one called An Actor's Life and another which is a response to questions put to me by audiobook clients called, simply Audiobooks for Authors. Both will grow at their own pace. I might add more later if there is sufficient demand.
I also plan to invite industry guests to blog. Author, editor, actor, engineer or producer, if you want to be one of them and you think you have something pertinent to say, why not get in touch? I, for one, love to learn from the experiences and perspectives of others.
That said, not everything will or should be serious.
For example, from time to time, I will examine very personal questions such as, if there is a just God, why did he make me almost always the tallest in the room thus forever consigning me to the back of group shots? I have more to offer the world than a disembodied head.
